What is Information Design?
Jacobson (2000) defined information design as the art and science of preparing information so that it can be used by human beings with efficiency and effectiveness.
People who work in graphic design consider the term "information design" to be a synonym for and/or a subset of their discipline, but the term is also used in other fields. Writers refer to information design as "document design", while computer scientists and information technologists think of the term as more or less a synonym for, but a different discipline than, information architecture (IA). IA includes the design of information systems, databases, or data structures. Therefore, in terms of IA, information design includes data modelling and process analysis.
